2020 – The start of a new year, a new decade, and the beginning of new opportunities. The CK team is back from our winter hiatus and sharing our visions and goals for the future.
- Establish words to live by. Write a manifesto of beliefs to live by and stick it on my door so I see it every time I leave home and go into the world. Kellie
- Embrace a gratitude mindset. Remember to value, give attention to, and honor the present moment instead of wishing for things to be different. Karli
- Witness history. Can’t wait to witness the inauguration of our country’s first woman president. Jeanie
- Watch Less. Do More. I have watched every episode of Pretty Little Liars. 200 hours of watching. It’s easy to judge watching trash TV, but what about the thousands of hours I’ve spent watching prestige TV? That’s not TV though, that’s HBO… right? Is there an alt universe where I used all that time to learn how to play the piano? To finally understand Excel? Maybe the scolds were right in the ‘90s. Watching hours and hours of TV isn’t good for us, no matter how well made the show is. So, my resolution for the next decade is to watch less TV. Oh, and get abs. Because come on, who doesn’t want abs? Kevin
- Nihongo o manabu. Relearn my native language and become fluent in it again. Anri
- Properly prep for the ‘Big One.’ I have an irrational fear of earthquakes. Yet, I’ve only taken baby steps to prepare for the ‘Big One’. My goal is to overcome my fear and take practical steps to finish building my emergency preparedness kit. Hopefully I will never need it. Christina
- Further my education and plant some roots. My two goals for the next decade are to get a master’s degree and to become a homeowner. Lance
- See a truth realized. One of my favorite quotes is from Arthur Schopenhauer: “All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.” I look forward to not just the recognition of Climate Change, but to the recognition of the set of solutions for addressing it reaching this third stage in the decade ahead. Steve
- Do meaningful things. Whether that is more meaningful relationships, work or personal pursuits. Rather than doing things to distract myself or reach trivial goals, I want to do things with intention and authenticity. Caroline
- Believe more in the unlikely and seemingly impossible. This is when amazing things happen and life gets exciting. Maureen
- Ummmm…. Ten years is pretty daunting. I don’t think that far ahead. Erin
- Consume less. I’ve received some strange looks as I’ve shared with some of my friends that I won’t be eating for a while because I’m fasting. It may very well be another diet fad (though science says otherwise), but the important lesson I’ve learned is that it’s simply easier to go without. Especially during the holidays, I tend to consume compulsively, not just food but products, alcohol, even experiences. I want to consume less of everything and instead invest time, energy and mindfulness into the more important elements of my life. Chapin
- Set aside more time for myself. Don’t automatically agree to do things. Madeline
- Keep walking, and look up! It’s great exercise and if you find yourself at dusk in a natural area, keep an eye on the trees. You’ll never know what you might find. Now that I’ve gotten up close and personal with a family of five barred owls, I’m determined to widen my owl viewing to different breeds in the coming months and years. A great horned owl has been spotted just this past week near my house, so that’s first on my list. Others to look out for in Oregon: snowy owl and Western screech owl. Sue
- Expand my horizons. I tend to stay close to home so, over the next decade and more, I hope to spend more time out in the world. Traveling to new places, meeting new people, learning new things, making new friends, and catching up with old friends. Lindsay
